PART 3
(Anonymous) 2008-12-02 06:07 am (UTC)(link)Yamapi rolls his eyes. “July 4th, 1984. Your name is Akanish Jin, you’re 24 years old, part of the group KAT-TUN. You have a younger brother named Reio and—”
“Stop, stop, stop!” Jin exclaims, eyes widening. “You are stalking me!”
“Okay, listen,” Yamapi says, thinking fast before Jin called the cops. “A week ago you couldn’t find your keys in the apartment anywhere. Kept thinking about where it could be, and finally you found them on the table. I moved them there.”
Jin just stares at him.
“Do you need more? Fine. A month ago you were playing soccer with some friends and almost got knocked out by the ball aiming towards your head. You weren’t sure how, but somehow you got pushed out of the way just in time. I did that, too.”
When Jin doesn’t say anything, Yamapi sighs. “Do you believe me now? I can recite your life story for you, if that’d make you believe me.”
Jin shakes his head. “N-No, that’s okay,” he says. “Uhm. I have a question, though.”
“Sure, what?”
“Can you fly? I mean, you’re an angel, so…”
Yamapi laughs. “You are unbelievable,” he says, grinning. “I can if I want to. But I prefer to walk, like humans.”
“So, you’re not alive?” Jin asks.
“I’m an angel,” Yamapi says. “That protects you.”
“Why have you suddenly shown up, then? Why haven’t I seen you before?”
Yamapi shrugs. “It’s a complicated story. Even I don’t really understand it. You weren’t supposed to see me, whenever I save you or help you. And now I’m stuck like this, being able to be seen by you and everyone else. I don’t know how to change it back. I can only go where you belong. So that’s why I’m here.”
Jin watches him for a moment, then takes the few steps up to meet him, staring into his eyes. “You’re really my guardian angel?” he asks.
Yamapi nods. “Yes.”
Jin slowly grins. “Okay, awesome!” he says enthusiastically, plops down onto the couch and pats the spot beside him. “Sit down then, let’s watch something.”
Now Yamapi stares at him. “T-That’s it? You’re not afraid or scared or think I’m insane?”
Jin gives him an odd look. “You’re an angel. Who’s afraid of angels?” he asks. “And, besides, you did save me this morning, so you must be telling the truth.”
Yamapi shakes his head, a smile tugging at his lips. “You really are unbelievable. I’ve never met anyone like you.”
“Clearly, because I am the best,” Jin declares, laughing. He pulls on Yamapi’s hand and Yamapi falls onto the couch beside him. When Jin stares at him with bright, shining eyes, Yamapi feels something thud loudly in his chest. “So, angel, do you have a name?”
Yamapi stares into those eyes, not knowing exactly how fast and hard he’s already falling. “Yamapi,” he answers. “Just call me Yamapi.”
*
The next few days are strange for Yamapi. Since he can be seen now, he can’t accompany Jin to work like normal lest someone was to see him and cause trouble. Jin insists he’ll be okay and that he doesn’t need a guardian angel twenty-four seven, but Yamapi still feels like he’s missing half of himself the entire time Jin’s at work. It makes him a little nervous, not knowing if Jin’s safe, not being there to help him in case something were to happen, and he spends most of the day fretting as he watches television, something he’d never had much time for when he was alive.
When Jin doesn’t have work, though, he’s a bundle of questions. Yamapi doesn’t remember the last time he’s spoken so much, but Jin fires question at him after question, looking genuinely interested as well.
“How does someone become a guardian angel, anyway? Don’t you just go straight to heaven or hell?” Jin questions one evening. It’s been a few weeks now and they’ve both gotten accustomed to this new environment. Jin’s learned that Yamapi can’t sleep or eat, and Yamapi notices how Jin tries not to be conspicuous when he’s eating, how he tries to stay up as late as he can talking to Yamapi so he doesn’t flaunt his own sleeping time. It makes that something thud in his chest again, whenever Yamapi notices Jin’s behavior. He’s not sure what it is, this feeling, but he likes it.
PART 4
(Anonymous) 2008-12-02 06:08 am (UTC)(link)“Isn’t that morbid though? You’re stuck watching people like me, it’s almost like mocking you. Like, hey, you’re not alive, watch these dumbasses fuck up their lives.” Jin glares up at the ceiling. “Who thought of this idea? It’s shit. I’d hate to be in that position.”
Yamapi smiles. “It’s not so bad,” he replies. “I like watching other people, making them happy. I like seeing them happy. Probably has to do with when I was still alive.”
“What did you do, when you were alive?”
“Actually, I was a singer, like you,” Yamapi admits and Jin looks surprised. “A solo artist.”
Jin’s eyes widen. “Wait, you’re that Yamapi? That incredibly famous one?”
“That’d be me,” Yamapi sighs.
“How come you’re my guardian angel?” Jin asks.
Yamapi stares at him for a moment, then shrugs. “Guess we were just meant to be.”
*
They quickly fall into a routine. On days Jin works, Yamapi makes sure he’s awake on time, meaning not ten minutes before, but at least an hour earlier. Jin showers and Yamapi makes breakfast. He hasn’t cooked in years, so he burns the eggs and toast the first few tries and Jin surprises him by whipping up something for himself.
“If you know how to cook, why don’t you do it more often?”
Jin shrugs. “It’s not fun, cooking for myself. It’s more of a chore.”
“You’d lose some of those pounds if you stopped eating outside so much,” Yamapi teases, poking Jin in the stomach and Jin glares at him.
“I am not fat!”
Yamapi grins. “No, just a little chubby.”
Jin lunges and tackles him and the apartment is filled with Yamapi’s laughter and it’s wonderful, laughing, Yamapi doesn’t remember how long it’s been since he’s truly laughed.
*
When Jin doesn’t have other obligations, he ends up spending more time at home than he did before Yamapi had joined him. Yamapi doesn’t want to assume it’s because of him, but Jin seems much happier these days, just sitting with Yamapi and talking about everything and nothing at all, things like how big the world is, or Dragonball. And the Jin before, he rarely smiled, only occasionally when he was trying to get laid or was forcing it for the camera. But now, now, the smiles were daily. Yamapi’s greeted with a smile every morning, and sent off with a smile every night. And Yamapi’s attracted desperately to these smiles, the way Jin’s eyes light up and the way he looks honestly happy, it makes Yamapi’s stomach flop over pleasantly, that weird sensation he hasn’t felt in years. Hasn’t felt once since he’s been dead. What was it about Jin that makes him feel this way? Yamapi still can’t figure it out and it’s driving him a little insane.
They go out a few times. Yamapi tagging along when Jin needs more food, helping him buy things to use for dinner that night or the following weekend. No one recognizes him, either, which Yamapi’s fine with. He was once famous and once the center of attention. Right now, it feels good just being with Jin, shopping normally, picking fights normally, not having to worry about anything else. A second chance, almost, at being human.
PART 5
(Anonymous) 2008-12-02 06:10 am (UTC)(link)“Can I call you Pi?”
Yamapi looks up quickly from the magazine he was reading. “Pi?”
“Yeah,” Jin says, looking a little embarrassed, and Yamapi feels something inside of him warm up at the expression on Jin’s face. “Like a nickname. Short for Yamapi. Just, Pi.”
Yamapi stares at him for a while, lips curving into a smile and Jin immediately gets defensive as he does whenever he’s uncomfortable.
“W-What?” he demands. “Quit smiling like that, creep!”
He punches Yamapi on the shoulder playfully and Yamapi laughs, aims a kick at his shin, but Jin moves too soon and Yamapi hits him straight in the stomach. Jin coughs, clutches his stomach and Yamapi’s eyes widen.
“I’m sorry!” Yamapi exclaims, hovering beside him but not touching, not wanting to cause anymore damage.
But Jin just shakes his head and grins. He sits up properly and teases, “You fail as a guardian angel. Didn’t you see that coming?”
Yamapi glares at him. “Hey, I’ve kept you alive for twenty-four years.”
“Better keep that up until I’m a hundred.”
“Only if I like you.”
“Oh, you like me.” Jin grins cheekily.
Yamapi’s face warms up and he ignores why it’s happening, why he’s reacting when he’s not supposed to, and looks away.
Jin grins some more and he plops down onto the floor, dropping his head onto Yamapi’s lap. Yamapi’s eyes widen but Jin just says, “So, Pi, what’s for dinner?”
And Yamapi can’t think of anything to say, so he reaches his fingers over and slides them along Jin’s collarbone. Jin shrieks, curling away and retreating on the other side of the room, glaring at Yamapi.
“How did you know about that!”
Yamapi smirks. “I’m your angel, remember?”
*
For awhile, Jin is okay with not going out, but a month into it, he drags Yamapi to a club. Yamapi remembers not really being too much into this type of thing when he’d been alive. As a solo artist, he didn’t have many close friends, and the friends he did have partied too much and too hard and Yamapi didn’t want to be involved in that. Jin, however, lives in these scenes. He seems most comfortable here, catches the eyes of girls (and guys, even) without even trying, knows exactly what to say to the bartender to get at least one free drink, sings along with the music, and moves with the beat. He leads Yamapi to the bar and they settle in the stools. Jin orders two drinks, though Yamapi’s is just for pretense.
Jin likes to drink, however, so he drinks Yamapi’s as well, and orders another round. Yamapi watches carefully, counting glasses, but then Jin stops and gets to his feet.
“Come on, dance,” he says. “Those girls over there have been watching us since we got here.”
Yamapi shakes his head. “I’m not used to this. Besides, I haven’t done this in years,” he says. “You go.” Those last words kind of hurt him to say, though he’s not sure why. The thought of Jin dancing with those girls, with Yamapi sitting here, watching him, it made him a little sick. He’s seen it before, has seen Jin do much more than just dance, but right now, it felt different. Somehow. He still wasn’t sure what it was that was different about it, though.
“Are you sure?” Jin asks.
Yamapi nods, forces a smile. “Yeah. Go.”
Jin grins at him and heads off towards the girls and Yamapi watches with sour eyes as he leads one of them to the dance floor, immediately placing hands on her hips and grinding against her in time to the rhythm. Yamapi’s so entranced by them that it takes him almost a minute to realize someone’s tapping his shoulder. Turning quickly, he finds the other girl sliding into Jin’s previous seat and offering him a glass.
“I noticed you haven’t had anything yet,” she says smoothly. “Go on, have some.”
Yamapi takes the drink from her and slowly takes a sip, knowing nothing will happen to him if he takes some. However, it burns going down his throat and he can taste it. His eyes widen and he almost spits out the rest of it, his mind spinning in confusion. He’s not supposed to be able to taste. He’s not supposed to be able to feel the drink in his throat.
“Hey, are you okay?” the girl asks, tapping his shoulder again.
PART 6
(Anonymous) 2008-12-02 06:11 am (UTC)(link)He practically runs back to Jin’s apartment, utterly confused and even frightened because none of this made sense. He was an angel, he wasn’t human. He shouldn’t feel, shouldn’t taste, shouldn’t be jealous like he was of those girls, shouldn’t hear his heart — his heart? — pounding in his ears. He shouldn’t feel anxious and frightened. These were things he hadn’t felt since he’d been alive. Why were they resurfacing now?
Completely confused, Yamapi paces the length of the apartment for hours, growing more anxious as Jin doesn’t return home. When he hears the unmistakable click of the lock it’s well past two in the morning and Jin stumbles inside. Yamapi’s immediately at the doorway, helping him through the door, shutting and locking it behind him, and then notices how Jin’s glaring at him accusingly.
“How come you left so soon? I missed you,” Jin asks, voice a little slurred. Yamapi wonders just how much more he’s had to drink.
“I didn’t see you stop me,” Yamapi answers darkly. That feeling – jealousy, anger – it burns inside him again.
“Because I’m a little confused right now,” Jin admits. He kicks off his shoes and pulls his coat off, tossing it to the floor carelessly, then turning back to pin Yamapi with his gaze.
“Oh, what of?”
Jin steps closer, gets into Yamapi’s face and Yamapi sucks in a breath, surprised. “I was dancing with that girl, but I kept thinking of you. I could feel you watching me and that turned me on more.”
Yamapi’s eyes widen. Jin’s hands are on the wall now, on either side of his head, just above his shoulders, and he’s leaning in. Yamapi can count his eyelashes, and that indescribable feeling jolts in his belly again.
“Why did you leave so soon?” Jin asks.
“Because I’m confused, too.”
“Oh, what of?”
“I don’t know yet,” Yamapi admits, bites his lip. Jin’s eyes drop to focus in on that one action.
“Can you wait until morning to figure it out?”
Yamapi’s heart jumps. “I think so.”
“Good,” Jin says and then he’s closing what little space is left between them by pressing their mouths together.
Yamapi moans instinctively, he hasn’t felt this in years, isn’t sure why he’s feeling it now, why he’s feeling anything at all. Jin’s lips are warm and smooth against his, his tongue tastes of alcohol as it licks along the roof of his mouth. His hands are hot as they grab his hips and pull Yamapi against him, and his hair is soft where it tickles Yamapi’s cheek. These are things Yamapi felt and noticed when he was alive, these are things he shouldn’t be feeling right now. But he could. He could and it was amazing. Feeling Jin’s warmth, tasting Jin’s lips, combing his fingers through Jin’s hair, it’s exhilarating. Horrific, but exhilarating. The feelings are ten times as strong as they’d been when he was alive, ten times as intoxicating and ten times harder to ignore. Yamapi doesn’t understand what’s happening, but right now with Jin leading him down the hall and pushing him onto the bed, he doesn’t care. Right now, he feels Jin, and that’s all he needs.
*
For the first time in years, Yamapi sleeps. When he wakes up, it’s to sunlight on his face, and chilly autumn air breezing through the window, the curtains fluttering about it. He still can’t grasp the reasons behind everything that has happened, and he still can’t find himself to care. For the first time in years, Yamapi feels alive.
He rolls over onto his side, sees Jin laying beside him, eyes closed, breaths soft against the pillow, sunlight streaming along the slope of his naked back. Yamapi’s heart sings in his chest, and he closes his eyes again and sleeps.
PART 7
(Anonymous) 2008-12-02 06:12 am (UTC)(link)He throws the covers off him and pulls on some clothes, not really caring, and stumbles out the door. Jin’s no where in the apartment. There’s no evidence of him having gotten up to make breakfast or anything, either. Worried that maybe something has happened to him, Yamapi pulls on his coat and shoves his feet into his shoes and heads outside. He doesn’t know where he’s going, but he knows he can’t sit still at home. What a guardian angel he is, losing the one person he’s supposed to watch immediately after—
Yamapi stops in his tracks, eyes widening as he realizes what happened. Of course Jin left, why wouldn’t he? Yamapi would, too, had he been in Jin’s position. Yamapi wasn’t real, he was an angel, he wasn’t even human, of course Jin would be freaked out. Of course Jin would leave. Yamapi must have been completely delusional to have thought otherwise. Jin left and he wouldn’t go back until he knew Yamapi was no longer there and Yamapi lives to protect Jin, to make sure he’s happy and safe, and Yamapi will do whatever he needs to to ensure that. Even if it means leaving himself.
Yamapi can’t move, thousands of feeling — those horrible feelings he never missed as an angel — overwhelming every never in his body. He doesn’t know what to do now, where to go, how-how could he even survive without Jin? It was unfathomable, it was—
“You are so stupid,” a familiar voice says and Yamapi turns to find Tegoshi standing before him, arms crossed over his chest and looking unpleased.
“What? What’s happening?” Yamapi demands desperately. “I-I can feel. I can taste and sleep and—”
“You turned human,” Tegoshi interrupts easily.
Yamapi’s eyes widen. “Really? I-I’m human again?”
Tegoshi nods, amused. “Yes.”
“But how? Is that even possible?”
“Of course it’s possible, it just happened to you.”
“But why?”
Tegoshi sighs. “You love him. He makes you feel again and those feelings changed you.”
“W-Wait, you said anything about l-love?” Yamapi exclaims, feels heat sweep up in his cheeks, but Tegoshi only smirks knowingly.
“I’m God, remember? I know how you feel,” Tegoshi says. “If you don’t believe me, then what else do you call this?”
Yamapi shakes his head. “I-I have no idea,” he says. “So, I-I’m no longer an angel?”
“Of course not. Where do you think the term fallen angels came from? You’ve fallen, and you’re human now. This is your second chance.”
“But’s he’s left me,” Yamapi says without thinking. He feels his heart clench painfully in his chest.
Tegoshi rolls his eyes. “You lose all your faith when you turn back human,” he says with a shake of his head and before Yamapi can ask what he means, he’s gone.
It it were possible, Yamapi feels even more confused now. He was human again, but with no where to go, no one to see, nothing to do. He was human with another chance, a chance to be with Jin. But Jin. Jin was gone and right now, Yamapi would much rather be dead again.
He’s so wrapped up in his thoughts that he doesn’t realize how he’s being shoved into rudely by passerby, so engrossed in his vast emotions that he stumbles and starts walking without looking, and it’s not until the honks of horns and screeching tires and a familiar warmth grabbing his arm and pulling, does he come back to reality with a jolt.
The noises scream in his ears as if on surround sound, and his heart races as he’s pulled to his feet. Yamapi feels his throat go dry when he finds Jin’s face close to his own.
PART 8
(Anonymous) 2008-12-02 06:13 am (UTC)(link)“J-Jin?” Yamapi chokes out, not believing this. Jin was there, right before him, and he was real because Yamapi can feel the heat from his skin on his arm, can see his eyes flicker with relief and worry.
“Yes, it’s me,” Jin says, dragging Yamapi back to the sidewalk and heading in the direction of the apartment. “Are you all right?”
“I-I don’t know yet,” Yamapi says, his mind swimming, and Jin just tightens his grip on Yamapi’s arm.
Neither says a word on the walk back to Jin’s apartment, and once they arrive, Jin still won’t reliquinsh his grip on Yamapi’s arm. Yamapi and pulling his feet out from his shoes, wondering how to tell Jin to let go so he could get his coat off as well, and then he’s being pulled close, Jin’s arms wrapping around him and holding on tightly. Yamapi’s heart thuds in his chest and he doesn’t know what to do, just stands still, breathes in the smell of shampoo in Jin’s hair.
Jin’s whispering softly into his ear, “You scared me this morning by vanishing. What were you doing? Where did you go?”
Yamapi’s brows furrow and he pushes Jin back, perhaps a bit more forceful than necessary. “Where did I go? Where were you?”
Jin bites his lip and looks away. Yamapi realizes he’s embarrassed.
“Jin?” he asks carefully, but Jin shakes his head and rushes to the kitchen. Confused, Yamapi follows him, grabbing his arm and turning him around. “What’s wrong?”
“You left. After we…” he trails off for a second, looks at the floor. “If you left, you obviously don’t want to stay here anymore, right? Then, then you should go.”
Yamapi drops his hand immediately as if he’d been burned. “What are you talking about? I-I don’t want to leave!” he exclaims, almost close to laughing because this situation is so bizarre.
Jin stares at him for a moment, then says, “Then why did you leave?”
“Because you were gone!” Yamapi says. “I-I thought that you had left. I mean, I-I’m not, well, I wasn’t, but…”
“Wait, what do you mean?” Jin interrupts.
Yamapi sighs. “This is insane, but…I’m human again.”
Jin’s eyes widen. “That can happen?”
“Apparently,” Yamapi says.
“How?”
Yamapi looks away quickly, not sure how to explain that because he loves Jin, he turned human? Did Jin even love him? Jin has only known him for a month.
“Pi?” Jin prompts, stepping up to him until they’re a mere breath away.
Yamapi bites his lip and meets his gaze, swallows down the lump in his throat. Jin notices the hesitation, reaches out to swipe Yamapi’s hair from his face, fingers hot against Yamapi’s skin as he trails them along his cheek, then his jaw, and Yamapi’s heart skips a beat from the warm look in Jin’s eyes.
“I-I’m human again because I love you,” Yamapi breathes against Jin’s lips. “Those feelings changed me back.”
Jin watches him for a moment, seeming to determine whether Yamapi was telling the truth. Then he smirks. “You love me?”
Yamapi groans and hides his face. “No,” he mumbles, stubborn. “Who would?”
“Clearly, you would,” Jin replies, and Yamapi can hear the smirk in his voice without having to turn and look at him.
Yamapi just groans again and tries to move away, but Jin’s got a hand on his hip, the other on his chin, turning him back, and before Yamapi can say another word, Jin’s kissing him. Yamapi reacts immediately, turning to face him fully, hands sliding down his sides and resting on Jin’s waist, tilting his head just a bit for more access. It’s a soft, slow kiss, both of them taking their time. Yamapi’s skin tingles from Jin’s touch, the way his hands move along his back, slipping beneath the hem of Yamapi’s shirt, the heat from his fingertips leaving white-hot dots on his skin. Yamapi tightens his grip on Jin’s waist and pulls them flush together, Jin moaning into his mouth at the sudden contact, then pulls away, slowly licking his lips.
PART 9 END
(Anonymous) 2008-12-02 06:18 am (UTC)(link)Yamapi makes an embarrassed sound and drops his head, resting his forehead on Jin’s shoulder. Jin laughs, the sound warm and heartfelt, sending waves of pleasure up and down Yamapi’s spine. “Shut up,” he says.
Jin smiles and moves back to catch Yamapi’s gaze. “Are you really human, now?”
Yamapi nods. “Yes.”
“Oh.”
Yamapi glares, pinches his side. “Why do you sound so disappointed?” he demands, and Jin squirms away from him, sitting down on the couch and pulling Yamapi down with him.
“I’m not. I just, you know, thought it was cool to be fucking an angel.”
Yamapi rolls his eyes. “You would get off on that.”
“Hey,” Jin whines, pouting and Yamapi laughs.
They fall into silence for a small moment, then Yamapi remembers about that morning. “Where did you go? If…If you weren’t planning on leaving, then, where were you?”
Now Jin blushes, glancing away with embarrassment and it’s not until Yamapi reaches over to swipe his fingers along his collarbone, with threats to keep doing it, that he relents, screaming, “Okay, okay! I was getting you a key!”
Yamapi stops attacking him, and his eyes widen. “A-A key?”
“Yes, moron, for the apartment,” Jin says. He rubs the back of his neck sheepishly and says, “I-I wasn’t leaving. I wasn’t even thinking anything close to that.”
“Oh. Well. Uhm.” Yamapi feels a little stupid for having jumped to conclusions, for not having trusted Jin. But then Jin is leaning over and pressing a small kiss to Yamapi’s forehead, fingers curve into the back of his neck.
“I wasn’t going to leave,” Jin repeats, breath soft against Yamapi’s skin.
“Cut me some slack,” Yamapi replies, miffed. “I just turned back human. What was I supposed to think?”
“So, if you’re human again, you can eat and sleep and feel like before?” Jin asks.
“Yes,” Yamapi says. “I-I’ve been feeling since that day I saved you.”
“Do you regret it?”
Yamapi shakes his head vigorously. “No, no, not at all. I-I’m glad, really, I—”
Jin cuts him off by tugging on his arm and pulling him down against the arm, fusing their mouths together harshly. Yamapi groans and threads fingers through Jin’s hair, gripping tightly as Jin’s hand darts under his shirt, traces the lines of his abs. Jin pulls back a moment later and Yamapi makes a noise of protest.
“You can feel all of that, now?” Jin breathes into his ear.
“Yes,” Yamapi replies.
Jin sucks along his neck leisurely, asks, “And that?”
Yamapi tightens his fingers in Jin’s hair. “Yes.”
“Awesome,” Jin says, glancing up to meet Yamapi’s gaze, eyes shining with mischief.
Yamapi hears his heart beating loudly in his ears and can feel his veins jolt with pleasure. He smiles, ghosting his lips against Jin’s, and says, “Will you stop talking and make me feel some more?”
"Gladly, angel," Jin answers and when Jin kisses him this time, Yamapi can feel it everywhere and he's incredibly glad to be alive.
