anon-san, this was perfect. i was (pleasantly) surprised that you had them already together and breaking up over it, but then i realized that it was even better that way. added to that the length of time they were separated before rina (LOVE RINA, LOVE YOUR RINA) sat them down.

i like how you had them do it naturally but didn't go into details. i can only imagine how awkward it was, how both of them would have to keep telling themselves that it was for pi. XD

i love how jin was down for it from the first second. i could almost see his reactions in my mind. who just stares at Rina like she’s some kind of magical goddess come to answer all of his prayers was probably my favorite line.

the scene with pin "making up," i love it. jin saying "thank you." ;♥_♥;

then it's a girl. NAMED MIKI. and jin cries harder than her.

He kisses Jin’s hair, rests his check against the older man’s head, and nods at Rina.
“Yeah,” he says softly, grinning as Miki starts to cry again, “I’m happy.”

SO AM I, ANON-SAN. THANK YOU SO MUCH. ;_; YOU ARE A STAR. ♥

Jin and Rina get married. And Yamapi has to watch his baby sister, whom he'd do anything to keep happy, marry the only person he's ever loved.

Whether Jin ever finds out about Yamapi's feelings, or if they get together is up to the anon. Any rating is fine.

Baby Don't Go (1/?)

Disclaimer: I don't own A Tale of Two Cities, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Monkey's Paw, or The Music of the Hill. {order of appearance} Nor the two songs, I Got You Babe and Baby Don't Go. Or the poem, Miles. ...I think that covers it. xD

-

Akanishi Jin was an interesting person. He spoke English; he lived in Los Angeles, California for three years; gave starving college kids English lessons for next to nothing; and played soccer on the weekends with the local orphans.

Yamashita Tomohisa knew this, because, his mother had made sure that his new English tutor checked out properly; and after that last mishap with the escaped convict, he was no longer allowed to pick random strangers up from the street. Not that Tomohisa minded, of course, because Jin wasn’t a mean person, nor did he get annoyed easily; even when Tomohisa pronounced please as prease. Constantly. Every single time Jin asked him to read from the thick English text book he’d brought with him, his ls would roll off his tongue as an r. Jin never said anything, though. Just gave him a smile and told him to try again.

-

Jin couldn’t help but take pity on Tomohisa. The poor kid was trying, he really was. He couldn’t help he was born Japanese, or at least born with the inability to pronounce the letter l correctly. He wondered why exactly he’d been hired in the first place, really. Tomohisa did fine. He’d get by in New York, studying music. There’d be translators there to help him along if he needed it.

Tomohisa’s mother had been persistent. Allowing him room and board, so they could work as early as needed to as late as needed. She treated him like a son, almost; or at least, a close friend to Tomohisa’s. Overall, Jin couldn’t complain, really. He liked it here.

What scared him most though was; liking it too much.

-

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of-” He sighed and leaned back against the chair, “What’s the point of this, again?”

Jin raised an eyebrow at Tomohisa, “Why’d you stop?” he asked. “Continue.”

Rolling his eyes, Tomohisa looked back down at the book, “foolishness, it was the…” he trailed off, a frown crossing his lips at the word.

Epoch. ” Jin said simply, not looking up from his notebook. “Pronounced like epic.”

“…epic of belief, it was the epic of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness-

“Stop.”

Tomohisa glared up at Jin, “You told me to keep reading. So I was. Why the fuck did I even have to read that?”

Jin shrugged, “It’s considered a great piece of literature in America. You're going to America, duh.”

“Jin, I’m not a literature major. I’m a music major.”

“Right.”

Re: Baby Don't Go (2/?)

(Anonymous) 2010-04-05 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn’t like Jin was fucking up on purpose, well, maybe he was, but that wasn’t the point. The point was, he was starting to do the exact thing he didn’t want to do. He was starting to like Tomohisa, which, for someone who’s never thought that way about men, was slightly odd. It wasn’t a good thing he tried to argue with himself. Tomohisa left in less than a month, and after that, they’d never see each other again. He couldn’t like Tomohisa, because of that. Long distance relationships would never work out.

He sighed and pulled a book of Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories from the shelf in his temporary room; silently convincing himself that the book would help Tomohisa learn English.

-

Tomohisa was beginning to doubt Jin’s English skills past American literature. The older seemed to not do much, except place a book in front of him, telling him a page number and tell him to read. He’d read A Tale of Two Cities for the past three days, never moving past the first sentence, before Jin stopped him and called it a day.

Jin came down into the kitchen, placing a black hardback book in front of him. He sighed and stared at it, here we go again.

-

"I shall perish," said he, "I must perish in this deplorable folly. Thus, thus, and not otherwise, shall I be lost. I dread the events of the future, not in themselves, but in their results.”” Tomohisa stopped, looking up at Jin who was writing something in a notebook, “Why is this so depressing?” he asked.

Jin shrugged, “It’s Poe. Poe was always depressed about something.”

Tomohisa sighed, “I’m a music major, Jin.” He said again, “Not a literature major.”

Jin looked at him like he’d grown two heads, “You want to learn English, right?”

Reluctantly, Tomohisa nodded, “Yeah.”

“Then read.”

Re: Baby Don't Go (3/?)

(Anonymous) 2010-04-05 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
Jin was starting to dread their daily lessons, as the weeks passed; it got closer and closer to Tomohisa’s departure date, and closer to the moment when Jin would be alone again. He loathed that. It was a selfish wish though, for him to even think that Tomohisa liked being around him.

He sighed and pulled another book from the shelf, tucking it under his arm, before leaving the room and going down the stairs.

-

“I wish I didn’t have to go to New York.”

Jin looked up from his notebook. “Huh?”

“Then I wouldn’t have to learn English.”

A hum, Jin reached out and tapped the open book with his finger, “Read.”

Rolling his eyes, Tomohisa obliged.

-

The knocking ceased suddenly, although the echoes of it were still in the house. He heard the chair drawn back, and the door opened. A cold wind rushed up the staircase, and a long loud wail of dissapointment and misery from his wife gave him the courage to run down to her side, and then to the gate beyond. The streetlamp flickering opposite shone on a quiet and deserted road.”” Tomohisa stopped. “That’s it?” he asked, looking up at Jin.

“You’re getting better.” Was all Jin said before closing the notebook. “It was meant to be written that way. It shows how much consequence a wish can bring.”

Tomohisa stayed silent, then, “I’m a music major, Jin.”

“I know.”

Re: Baby Don't Go (4/?)

(Anonymous) 2010-04-05 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
Jin pulled a book from his shelf, a week; that’s all he had left with Tomohisa, a week. He closed his eyes, fingers tracing over the lettering on the cover, as he paced himself. He grabbed his notebook and a pencil, before turning off the lights; his once unpacked bag, now packed and sitting in the corner.

-

“Saki?” Tomohisa asked, “What the hell?”

Jin rolled his eyes, “Page three hundred.” He said. “Read it, understand it, comprehend it.”

-

"Drive it off!" she shrieked. But the figure made no answering movement.

The antlers drove straight at her breast, the acrid smell of the hunted animal was in her nostrils, but her eyes were filled with the horror of something she saw other than her oncoming death. And in her ears rang the echo of a boy's laughter, golden and equivocal.
” Tomohisa frowned slightly, his eyebrows drawing together in confusion. “What was that?”

“Good job.” He said, not looking away from the notebook, “You’ve learned a life lesson.”

“Huh?”

“Don’t trust everyone. Don’t be led astray, when you think there’s another way.” Jin stood up, “You’ll need that knowledge in America.”

“I’m a music major, Jin.”

“But life is more important than music.”

Re: Baby Don't Go (5/?)

(Anonymous) 2010-04-05 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
Tomohisa was determined to get one over on Jin, he really was. He had three days left, three days before his flight to New York, but, the next day, when Jin arrived without a book, he was thrown off.

-

“Okay, music major.” He said, placing the radio on the table, “We’re going to learn about classic American music.”

A sheet of paper was slid over to Tomohisa, “I’m going to play the song, follow along and when it’s done playing, tell me what the song was trying to get across.”

-

Halfway through the first song, Tomohisa was confused. All the repetitions of I got you babe and mentions of love. What the hell was this?

Jin paused the tape when the song finished, the music dying out along with the voices of the two singers. “So?”

“It’s a love song.” He said, frowning.

“Did you learn anything from it?”

He stayed silent.

“And you call yourself a music major.”

-

Tomohisa didn’t get the point of listening to old American music. It’d been four months, and he still didn’t know any proper English past the basics. Jin was doing fine at teaching him English at first; actually teaching him words he’d need, basic grammar skills and phrases that would get him around the Big Apple; but, as the months progressed, all he did was read. And not everything made sense, either. And when he asked about it, all Jin offered were one or two short lines about life lessons.

Tomohisa shook his head, watching boredly as Jin placed another sheet of paper down in front of him, déjà vu settling over him.

Re: Baby Don't Go (5/?)

(Anonymous) 2010-04-05 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
“You know the drill.” He said, flipping the notebook open, “Listen-”

“-to the song, follow along with it while it’s playing and then tell you what it’s trying to get across. I know.” Tomohisa said.

A snort and Jin started the radio.

The song echoed in the kitchen, and Tomohisa got lost in the midst of I love yous and baby don’t gos. He looked down at the paper, mouthing the lyrics along with the song.

Baby don’t go
Pretty baby please don’t go
I love you so
Pretty baby please don’t go

When the song trailed off into nothingness, Tomohisa looked up, slightly surprised to see Jin looking at him intently.

“What did you learn?” Jin asked, his voice a mere whisper.

“She doesn’t want him to leave.” He whispered.

A sigh left Jin’s lips, “Close.” He said, “Write an essay on the meaning of those two songs, I’ll get it tomorrow.” He stood up and went upstairs, leaving everything on the table.

Curiously, he reached across the table and grabbed the notebook, before flipping it open to the page Jin was writing on.

Miles and miles and miles apart.
Although so far you've touched my heart.
Your laugh, your voice, your adoring smile,
Seem to shorten every mile.

I wake every morning and rest at night,
my thoughts and dreams filled with your sight.
Oh how I wish, even for one night,
I could lay in your arms and you hold me tight.
Not just a little bruised or battered

Tomohisa frowned at the words, the whole time Jin had been teaching him English, or at least, supposed to be teaching him English, he’d been writing poetry. He flipped through the notebook, page after page, filled with anywhere from short to long poems. He scoffed, dropping the notebook back onto the table, eyes falling onto the poem again, the English words staring back at him.

There was a stanza crossed out under it, causing the frown to deepen. He could barely make out the words under all the marks.

Shaking his head, he closed the notebook and stood up, going out of the kitchen and towards Jin’s room. He raised his hand to knock, pausing midway when he heard Jin’s voice.

I can’t see him go off to New York, I care too much about him to just watch him go. I tried to give him hints but…” a sigh “he just doesn’t get it…”

Tomohisa backed away from the door, his eyes wide, “he what?” he asked quietly, “He…loves me?” He went back into the kitchen, placing the notebook down onto the table and opening it, his eyes moving across the words again, trying to understand them.

“He’s going to miss me?”

-

Jin sighed and closed his bag; he looked around the room and sighed once more, before turning the light off and carrying his bag out to the kitchen.

He found a paper on the table, but Tomohisa was nowhere to be seen.

I caught an earlier flight, which is why I’m not here. I don’t have an essay about those two songs, but I do know their meaning. The first one, I Got You Babe, signifies love, the purest of love, where it doesn’t matter what you have, as long as you have the other person, who makes you feel loved.

The second song is different.
Baby Don’t Go is about love also, but its about a shallow love, where, they can’t be together, because one of them wants to go away because it’s not enough for them.

Jin sighed again, shaking his head, “Stupid music major.”

Farther down the page, there was a note, in Japanese.

when I get back in six months, you better fucking teach me proper English, Akanishi, instead of making me read old books. Also, maybe actually tell me how you feel about me? Instead of letting old music talk for you, it’s very cowardly of you.

-

annnnd, the end. It was longer than I expected. And the literature stuff, is weird, but my Jin muses are odd like that. I hope you like this, anon!

Nice Day for a White Wedding (1/2)

(Anonymous) 2010-04-05 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
It had all started off so innocently. Best friends from the moment they laid eyes on each other, Jin all but lived on the Yamashita's sofa, a permanent, Akanishi-sized dent in the cushion. Rina had been so small then, blushing and scampering away whenever Jin was around, and the pair of them had thought her little crush was hilarious, teased her mercilessly for it until Yamapi's mother had scolded them.

Time had gone by so fast back then, days filled with classes from eight in the morning until nine at night, biology, english, maths, dance, vocals, gym. Dinner was wolfed down during the walk from school to work, because by the time they arrived home just before ten, they were too tired to do anything more than shower and fall into bed - usually the same one.

It's not all that different now, except the hours are longer and when he collapses onto his bed, it's always empty.

Yamapi doesn't remember when me and Jin became Jin and I, when he'd gone from being a slightly selfish child to the polite young man everyone expected him to be. He doesn't remember, either, when me and Jin or Jin and I had become all he wanted from life, the moment he'd realised that his life was Jin and that all he could see of his future was beer and pizza on the sofa with bad American movies, laughter covering up Jin's horrible translations, untidy brown hair peeking out of the top of the covers in the morning, wide yawns and bare feet padding down the hall and sleepy smiles over breakfast.

He doesn't say anything, though, can't, won't. It's not that he needs time to come to terms with it - Jin's always been a constant in his life, and taking that next step doesn't feel anywhere near as strange as Yamapi thinks it ought to - but by the time he finally notices that there isn't space for a woman in his life next to Jin, Jin and Rina have already been going steady for six months.

Yamapi loses his faith in fate the day he realises he's in love with his best friend, and can't do anything about it.

Rina is happy, more than happy, and Jin, too, smiles even more than before. Jin's being the man Yamapi's always wanted for his little sister - he's steady, reliable, dependable (Everything you're not as a friend, Yamapi had laughed one night when it was just the two of them, and Jin had kicked him off of the sofa), and his eyes shine with adoration every time he looks at her.

Yamapi's too busy not looking closely enough to let his own feelings show that he doesn't see the same sparkle in Jin's eyes for him, too.

Nice Day for a White Wedding (2/2)

(Anonymous) 2010-04-05 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yamapi's mother is over the moon when he finally proposes, and when Rina tells them the date over dinner, Yamapi smiles and congratulates them just like he should. While the women are fawning over the ring sparkling on Rina's finger, Jin frowns gently, questioningly across the table at him, and Yamapi hates that he still loves the way Jin can read him like a book. He excuses himself with a nod of apology under the pretence of an early start in the morning, and escapes before Jin can start asking questions.

It's a white, Western-style wedding; of course it is, it's Jin. It's small, private, and their families and close friends are all gathered, waiting.

Yamapi knows this is it. Jin is straightening his jacket in the mirror and running his hands over his hair, slicked back into a tight ponytail while Yamapi watches, watches, can't tear himself away now even if his life depended on it. Then Jin's looking at his reflection, turning to cock his head to one side with that tiny furrow in his brow that Yamapi always wants to smooth out with his thumb, and he can't keep it out of his eyes any more. He can't pretend any more, can't go on wondering what if, needs to know with every fibre of his being.

What is it? Jin's asking, but he knows already, What's wrong?

Yamapi doesn't answer - they've never needed words before - and when he takes that final step, Jin meets him half way, pressing their lips together.

Jin tastes of salt, of desperation, and he kisses back like he's a dying man trying to drink the life from Yamapi's mouth. Yamapi's hands fumble with Jin's hair, fingers tangling and pulling it free, mussing it up because Jin's never been neat and tidy. Jin's face is wet when he pulls away, closing puffy eyes against Yamapi's tiny, pathetic little whimper, and he covers swollen lips and a red nose with shaking hands, drawing in a long, shuddering breath.

I'm sorry, he's saying, turning his back. Yamapi can feel the world crashing down around him and this, this is so much worse than not knowing.

You took too long.
